I really like their rice pot dish. The crispy rice at the bottom of the pot is so delicious and the rice is very fragrant. The meat in the tofu is very tender. With the chili oil, it’s quite tasty. They stay open very late, so you can consider having it for dinner. It’s recommended to call and reserve in advance because one serving takes 30 to 40 minutes to prepare. It was my first time eating there and I was very satisfied.

I ordered the szechuan beef and I don’t know what I was given but it definitely wasn’t that. It was barely even spicy (I wasn’t asked which spice level I preferred) it was some sort of breaded beef dish with not a single vegetable in sight. As someone who loves szechuan food I was sorely disappointed. I might as well have ordered mall Chinese food. Oh and also the meat options do not come with a side of rice you have to pay for that separately. Safe to say I will not be returning.

I leave this review having just visited today to order the same dish I used to order frequently over 20 years ago. It was here that I fell in love with their Szechuan Beef by chance as a young university student. I ended up coming here several times a month after also getting my friends hooked.

Since then, I moved away to Victoria, started a career and a family while my other friends started careers and continued coming periodically. In the odd time I did come to Ottawa, we met here, shared the same meal, and each other’s company.

Here I am over 20 years older, enjoying the same meal, the same taste, and the same great service. Dripping with nostalgia. .

Don’t ever change Yang Sheng.

Try the Szechuan Beef. It’s very rich so a good share plate but always delicious.

I ordered fried noodles with no pork, no mushrooms, and asked for soft noodles instead. Sounds simple, right? Instead, I got a bowl of plain boiled noodles that tasted like absolutely nothing. No flavor, no seasoning, nothing ,just a waste of $22.
When I called to explain the issue, the woman on the phone was unbelievably rude and started yelling at me, saying I should have told them to β€œadd spices.” Excuse me? I’m a regular customer who always orders the chicken fried rice, and not once have I had to β€œask for spices.” The customer service here has completely gone downhill β€” no apology, no offer to fix the order, nothing but attitude.
I will never come back to this place again. The staff are rude, disrespectful, and have zero idea how to treat their guests. If you want good food and people who actually care, go to β€œHey Kitchen” down the street , they have way better food and much friendlier service.
And to the woman who yelled at me on the phone: you should be ashamed of how you treat loyal customers. What an absolute disgrace

Last Friday, I rediscovered this restaurant, a real institution in Chinatown. This place welcomed us more than 25 years ago during our university nights out. The difference is that back then, restaurants in Chinatown were still open in the early hours of the morning. We arrived 30 minutes before closing time, which is now 11 p.m. In addition to the traditional egg rolls, we ordered a house specialty: calamari with satay sauce, as well as a specialty from the Szechuan region: shrimp with Szechuan sauce. Accompanied by a childhood friend who is a aficionado of Chinese cuisine, we really enjoyed our shrimp dish, which reminded us of a similar and rare dish: the famous Hong Kong shrimp (in caramelized tomato sauce). Coated in tomato sauce and flavored with Szechuan peppercorns, we were really impressed. This dish is definitely a must-try. We finished the meal with some excellent almond cookies. This restaurant offers a wide selection, but with only half an hour left before closing time, we had to limit our choices. I would also like to mention the excellent service, which was full of humor.
