Paninaro (Chinatown)

Honestly, this might be one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in the city. You can tell everything is high quality the ingredients taste so fresh and the bread is absolutely to die for. Also, I have to give a huge shoutout to Sam!!! She was working when we stopped in and she was so sweet.

I’ve already been back twice in one week since my first visit lol. The portions are super generous, too. If you’re in the mood for a killer sandwich, you have to check this place out!

If Joey Tribbiani had a favourite spot in Ottawa, this would be it. Because let’s face it — Paninaro makes sandwiches worth shouting “Joey doesn’t share food!” over and over.

The Moda Mortadella was stacked with flavour, that perfect balance of savoury and nutty richness layered inside crusty bread. The Prosciutto Piazza was everything you want in an Italian sandwich: salty, delicate prosciutto, fresh toppings, and bread with the right crunch-to-chew ratio. Add in smooth iced oat lattes, and you’ve got the trifecta of satisfaction.

But here’s the twist: Paninaro isn’t just about eating, it’s about playing. Tucked around the café are shelves and tables full of games: from classic board games you know and love to quirky finds that spark laughter mid-bite. It’s the kind of place where you can turn lunch into an afternoon hangout — sandwiches in one hand, Uno cards in the other. The vibe makes it more than a café; it’s a community spot where food and fun come together.

Paninaro proves Italian sandwiches in Ottawa aren’t just delicious — they’re an experience. Come hungry, come curious, and stay long enough to play a round (or three). Playfully recommended!

Great new Italian sandwich shop! The portions are HUGE that even if you eat hungry, you’ll have leftover. I tried the spicy one and it wasn’t too hot.

If you want a solid Italian sandwich in Ottawa, Paninaro is the place to go! It’s approaching (not quite), but approaching (👏) the quality seen in All’Antico Vinaio sandwiches! The vegetarian option “Pistachio Passeggiata” is excellent. I was told that the Moda Mortadella was adequate.
