S&S Restaurant and Grill

We ordered a plate that was listed as $31.50. After that, the waiter brought lentil soup and grilled sweet corn without us asking for them. We assumed they were included with the meal.

When it was time to pay, we discovered that we were charged a different price for the plate, and there were additional charges for the lentil soup and the corn. We were very surprised because we never requested those items.

On top of that, we were required to add a tip — there was no option to skip it.

We are very disappointed with this experience. This was our first time trying this restaurant, and unfortunately, it will be our last. Please double-check your bill carefully before paying.

Amazing experience at S & S Restaurant and Grill in downtown Ottawa! The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the customer service is excellent. The barbecue was absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked with rich, authentic flavors from Libyan and Sudanese cuisine. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, from the rice and grilled meats to the soup and salad. Generous portions and great value. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

My wife was walking by and noticed S&S and that they advertised halal meat (not that this should be something that everyone cares about, but for us we try our best to eat halal). So we took our son to eat there. It was a great experience. The owners took the order, cooked, and served. Everything is locally sourced, organic and no refined sugar is used for the desserts. The influence is a confluence of Sudanese, Persian, Libyan and more form a consortium of proprietors. We ordered the meat platter for two and chicken skewers, red rice and french fries with BBQ corn for our son. Simple food right? Yes, and also flavorful, perfectly bbq grilled and nice portions. Our meal for two was $49 but we had two chicken skewers, boneless chicken thighs, two medium sized pieces of lamb, and a beef skewer. It came with a side of red rice and salad and we picked the S&S house made spicy sauce, and garlic sauce. Everything was made to perfection. Their house sauce was amazing; flavorful to start and then ending with a nice little spicy kick. Not overpowering or made to put fire in your stomach, but more so as beautiful punctuation to a well grilled morsel of meat before it is swallowed. Everything was grilled well but still full of flavor, tender and juicy, even one hour later. The red rice was a great side, and appropriately portioned. Side salad was equally well-portioned, well made and delicious. If you come, do yourself a favor however. The tea and baklava. Tea is a crisp black tea that is smooth and not overpowering. The baklava is sweetened only with honey and filled with pistachios. Delightful. Please give this BBQ grill a try.

Discovered this little gem downtown on my way home this evening. I was looking for something quick, light and tasty. While I was waiting for my food, they offered me a complementary lentil soup that absolutely delicious. My BBQ half chicken platter was a must. I would recommend this place with no hesitation. Very conveniently opened till 11 pm which is later than most in this part of town.

This place hits all the right places.

Super fresh meat, carefully cooked to sweet delicious perfection. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Remember to try their Baklava! It is the perfect amount of sweet, crunchy and flavourful.

Definitely coming back for more!
