Portage Orchard

The young guy working last night was very good and excellent service & conversation! Food also good! Trés bien

The Orchard Pub is a gem. I’ve had fish and chips all over, but theirs blew me away; crispy, flaky, and perfectly seasoned. The staff were just as impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that nails both food and service like this. Highly recommend.

The service was incredible. The staff are really nice and gave great advice for their food. We ended up getting the dry rub lemon and pepper wings and bangers & mash.

My wife found the sausages too salty but I thought they were fine. The wings were excellent as were the fries. So if you find food salty often be cautious of the bangers & mash.

We ended up watching the open mic comedy which ended up being quite enjoyable. The comedians were pretty fun people clearly enjoying themselves.

Quaint little resto-pub, with a combination of open tables and nice secluded tables to suit gatherings of all kinds.
Food was good, but fish was a bit greasy – hopefully just a one-off! Drinks were good, and service was quick.
Parking is on the street (read the signs carefully!) and open lots are only a block away.

I’m going to assume this was just a bad night for Portage Orchard, based on such a high review score overall… however our experience was disappointing.

Our waiter was friendly and courteous – however he was the only waiter on a Saturday night at 6pm. Was not greeted at table for over 5 minutes – clearly they were understaffed this evening and this is managements fault, not the wait or cooking staff.

Atmosphere: good, nice location. Beer selection good – a few local craft brews on tap.

After ordering, we waited almost 45 minutes before seeing the first plate (after asking and flagging down wait staff).

Food:
The kids fish and chips was a very large portion and tasted good.

Portage Burger was good but slightly overcooked/dry.

Chicken curry – lacking flavor, good overall.

Beef Braised Stout: unfortunately we can’t give this an honest review since a mistake was made in kitchen and it was served with curry sauce.

Cobb Salad was good.
