Merivale Station Restaurant

Just had lunch for the first time here and am very impressed with the food quality. The best way I can describe the experience is like when you were a kid having dinner over at your friend’s house – homemade, very familiar, and not pretentious but friendly.

For $25 total including tip and tax I got a generous club sandwich with actual chicken breast, side of fries upgraded to a poutine, refillable coffee, AND a heaping portion of coleslaw! Great value and I’m looking forward to coming back.

My wife and I have always enjoyed our visit to Merivale Station. This place is by far the most cost-saving restaurant in Ottawa. They are generous in their servings and the food is good. The only drawback is that the food may take some time to arrive at your table, especially if the restaurant is busy. If that happens, just enjoy your coffee and the company you are with. 😉

Great mom and pop resto. Classic breakfast diner. Huge portions, great selection and well prepared. Bacon was perfect as well as sausages. Nice flavor of potatoes. Endless coffee. Very reasonable pricing. Ample parking.

A nice family oriented place. Good for team activities and getting together with colleagues after work.
The food is fresh, the portions are large and it’s very affordable.
I loved the fish and chip & the cheese burger. It’s much better than anywhere else in town.
Next, I would like to their pickerel fish dinner.

Read about this “hole in the wall” in Eat The Strip. It was interesting. One veteran waitress, one experienced cook and one lady working o the back meant there was some waiting involved, but the service was perfectly reasonable. We got a seat right away as it was probably after the lunchtime rush. However there was nary a seat to be had most of the rest of the afternoon.
The menu was short and sweet and delightfully simple.
The specials today were fish and chips, and hot hamburger sandwich, which we were happy to try today.
The food took a while but when it came, i can confirm the legends are true – the portion sizes were very generous. The fish and chips included 6 decent sized, heavily battered pieces of fish on a complete bed of fries. The coleslaw was fresh and also generously portioned – not at all a little paper cup like at some places.
The coffee was surprisingly excellent as well. The food overall was not super flavourful but the fries were tasty.
There is no way to beat the value. 6 pieces of fish with a giant bowl of coleslaw for $12.99 on special is unbeatable!
