Gezellig

This was our first time at Gezellig and we cannot give a more glowing review on the absolute perfect night we had.

The food was fantastic, very well presented and utterly delicious! We had the Ox Tail in Tomato and the Lamb Shank. For dessert we enjoyed the crème brûlée and the pumpkin cake. Again, absolutely amazed by the presentation and the taste.

The atmosphere could not have been better as well! The warm candle lit table, with soft lights and low music created a warm, inviting environment.

The staff adds to this as well, our waiter was Kevin, and let me tell you, Kevin is your man! A great person to share a joke, chat a bit and still have a great recommendation on what to order. Very fun, friendly and inviting for a first timer. Our hostess Nina was fantastic as well. Since this was a birthday dinner she offered to take pictures of us at the table and ever provided a candle on the dessert plate for my partner. Again, a friendly and inviting aura for a first time visit.

All and all, Gezellig is the place to go for anniversary, birthdays or any special event if you are in the Westboro neighborhood!

We went to Gezellig for the second time this Saturday. We had a good time, thanks to our server Emma, she was really attentive and offered us a great service. The ambiance was good ; Gezellig is beautifully designed. Cocktails were really good. As for the food, the price is quite steep. For that reason, we expected more flavours to come out. Food was cooked well, but I would qualify it as safe. Our favorite dish was the duck breast entrée. However, at that price range, I expected better. Our main dishes were lacking a sauce element / seasoning to bring out more flavors. I really enjoyed the dessert, but was a little disappointed by the lack of dairy-free option. At a similar price range, I loved my Stofa restaurant experience a lot more.

Expectations met!
Having experienced Beckta, we had high expectations for its sister restaurant. From the ease of reserving to the welcome to the engaging servers to the food, all of our expectations were exceeded.
Their beet soup, fish cakes (salmon), and burgers are amazing. The crème brûlée for desert is one of the best I’ve had.
Andrée, our server, was very friendly, helpful, and rounded out our experience.
We will definitely be going back! Reservations recommended.
Highly recommended to visit if you’re in the area.

We came to Gezellig for my bday dinner. We ordered the ciabatta, the greens and the gnudi as appies and then the lamb shank and the scallops as entrees. Most of the dishes were great. The gnudi was like gnocchi? Caught us off guard cuz we thought they’d be like sausages? Either way. Thought they were good. Bread was nice and yummy too. Greens unfortunately was unevenly seasoned or something. Some parts of the salad was very salty and borderline inedible while first few bites of it were great. Anyway. The mains were much better than the appies – had tons of veggies to accompany the proteins and no over seasoning. Just wished there was one more scallop though. Lamb shank was great and the mash that came with it was awesome. Oh yea. Desserts were great too. Had the creme brûlée at the restaurant, and pumpkin cake and butterfinger to go. The crumble on the crème brûlée was scrumptious. The ones we brought home weren’t as nice looking obviously but they tasted great nonetheless. All in all. Would recommend others to the restaurant. Was pretty solid.

Wow, wow, wow.

It’s been a while since I have been so impressed by a restaurant in Ottawa. My husband took me for my birthday, which our server recognized and really made the night feel special.

We ordered the PEI mussels (we easily switched the fries for ciabatta bread), tempeh (which our server split into two for us to share), and the arctic char. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, I highly recommend you coming here to try the tempeh, as it was juicy, had an umami flavour, and well balanced with a sweet broth.

We felt well fed and FULL, after all the courses, and even discussed coming back again in the spring.

For dessert we had a deconstructed Pumpkin Cake (like a granola bowl but for dessert) that was crunchy from the toffee, sour from the cranberry, warmly spiced, and creamy from the mascarpone.

Our server was phenomenal, and each recommendation provided was spot on.

Can’t wait to come back!

Grand place for a small or large gathering. Reservation for 11 and we were seated in a prime balcony location. Quit and courteous service by our wonderful host Ryan. Might be one of the best flavoured dishes I’ve had in Ottawa. The duck was fabulous. Brussel sprouts were a bit under done but it made the textures of the plate very interesting with both sweet and savory sauces. Maybe that was the plan and laiman me didn’t catch on. Thanks again and I will be back for the next birthday gathering.
