ByWard Market District

ByWard Market District is a place I’ve visited many times over the years, but I only recently realized how popular it is as a landmark in Ottawa. I’ve always come here for the convenience and the variety of shops, cafés, and small local spots. It has a lively atmosphere, especially in the evenings, and it’s easy to explore both indoors and outdoors. A familiar place that still has something new each time.

fter dinner, we walked out and the street was perfect for a little stroll. Such a nice area to wander around and enjoy the surroundings — really calm and pleasant.

You can feel the pulse of the city here, interact with locals and get your shopping done. A variety of shops offering fresh foods, clothes, fruits, antiques, meals, drinks, and much more. Walkable and safe. Although there are a few homeless people and druggies around, that shouldn’t be an issue. Plenty of paid parking options around, so you can park and explore the entire market on foot.

ByWard was one of my favorite stops on this trip. Although it caters to more touristy shops, there was a lot of local vendors selling candles, soaps, jewelry, art, and the food options were extensive. All sorts of regional cuisines.

I even had my first BeaverTail!

Our group always grabs a photo at city signs for our scrapbooks. Love that it was close by too!

Lots cute shops to visit, prices of items all comparable with other shops. Many restaurants of all kinds of ethnic foods. Three level mall nearby and Parliament only 6 min walk.
