Punjabi Canteen (Vanier)

Best Indian food in Ottawa hands down! I’ve tried Indian affair not a fan and came here reminds me of my Nani’s cooking. Daal Makhni right amount of thick and bitter chicken has a great mix of flavour BEST I’VE HAD IN AWHILE! Naan was even better I had to go back to get another one, made in a real it seems tandoor oven. Even the samosas were crisp and full. Would 100/10 recommend this place to anyone!! Staff was just as nice!

My airbnb host recommended this place and it was really nice experience! I had the best indian food in canada and went 3 days in a row. Highly recommend to try butter chicken poutine and fried rice!

Great food, not overpriced like most places. Friendly staff, picnic tables to sit at if you want to sit outside or you can sit inside if you prefer.
A big bowl of dal soup for six bucks and two vegetarian samosas for four dollars. There are also great lunch specials, butter chicken and rice bowl, butter chicken poutine, Chana masala and chicken biryani.
If you pay by credit card there is an up charge of 2.6% to cover the credit card charges(very reasonable).
Great lunch specials for around 10 bucks, what a deal!!

Located in a quiet suburban area directly beside a park, Punjabi Canteen is a new fixture in Vanier. Primarily a take out restaurant, there are two 4-seat tables inside, and three picnic benches outside, and ample parking for the size.

Inside is small and very clean, with a recent notice of inspection to further ensure a safe environment. It smells great. I went with something simple for my first order: noodle soup, garlic naan, masala chai. The noodle soup was delightfully spicy and filled with medium sized noodles, chicken, and green onion. The naan is very fresh with the distinctive and desirable char, and the chai is extremely smooth even without sugar.

I work nearby, so I ordered it as take out through Uber Eats, and it was made in plenty of time for a leisurely lunch. Altogether it came in at roughly $17. I’ll come back again and try other dishes in the future, in the meantime I recommend checking out this little canteen.
