African BBQ House

We walk by this place all the time on the way to Cineplex and it always smells so good. They BBQ on charcoal and you can smell it a block away, it makes me hungry every time. We finally tried it today and the chicken is delicious. The fries are crispy and hot. The $9.99 weekday lunch special is a lot of food, it’s a great value. They served the spicy sauce on the side. It’s great and flavorful. Not too spicy. I dipped my fries in it too. We’ll definitely be back.

This was my first time trying African BBQ, and I was very impressed. I ordered the chicken skewers platter, which came with jollof rice, a chef salad, and fried plantains. The portions were generous, everything was flavorful and and I truly enjoyed the meal. I will definitely be going back, and I was also happy to see that their food is halal.

I came in and ordered the quarter chicken leg combo, and let me tell you it tasted amazing. I had read the previous reviews, but decided to take a chance as I like to support local restaurants and it blew my mind! The service was great with very friendly workers and the food was better than what I expected. If you’re in Ottawa, I would recommend giving African Bbq house a try, you won’t be disappointed!!

Don’t waste your time and money. Horrible service and food quality. Beef skewers were very dry and hard. We couldn’t even eat them. Rice were chalky and undercooked. Service was extremely slow. The plates they gave were tiny. Fries had no seasons and were cold. The chicken leg was pink and chewy. The guy even got out order wrong. We ordered a family pack with 4 chicken and 2 beef skewers and we got all beef.

It was delicious. I ordered the chef special. My daughter ordered three skewers and the owner was so nice. He offered us free drinks.

The lamb skewers were a bit overcooked! Next time we go there I want to try the grilled fish.🐟

Such a hidden gem!!!! Delicious food at a very reasonable price.

Chicken skewers – 10/10!! Flavourful and juicy
Beef skewers (not pictured) – 5/10, was pretty dry, although flavourful
Fries (not pictured) – 15/10! Hot and fresh
Salad – 10/10! I can eat it every day
Plantain – 9/10. Hot and crispy
Rice -6/10. Spicy and good but not as good as the other dishes. Would probably replace it with fries in the future.

Got the family meal and split it with 5 people and we couldn’t finished. It came to less than $15 each after tax. So worth it. Will try the beef skewers next time.
