Overall a phenomenal family dining experience that was welcoming, delicious and went well above our expectations. I’ll explain. It was my daughter’s second birthday yesterday and we were looking for a place to take her for dinner. We typically do our research in advance because eating with a 2 year old isn’t always the easiest thing to do! We called and made a reservation, the phone service was great, they offer an online reservation and send you a link to your phone but also have the option to talk to someone directly. The server I spoke to on the phone said it would be no problem and she looked forward to seeing us.
We arrived and were greeted right away, the owner or manager was outside shovelling an access path to the handicap parking spots and making sure people had a safe way inside in the snowstorm.
The waitress seated us, our table had been already prepared with a high chair and colouring setup, taking into consideration we may need somewhere to put a diaper bag, she had set an extra chair for us behind and out of the way. Points for thoughtfulness!
The menu is extensive with lots of options, it could use a bit of editing but overall it was nice to have more than 3 options to choose from for our daughter’s meal. At $10 per kids meal it was quite affordable and the spaghetti and meatballs we ordered was a generous portion. My husband ordered the steak sandwhich and I had the butternut squash ravioli, both excellent choices. The veggies are clearly frozen ones, but the sauce, cook and garnish on the meals were both thoughtful and tasty. Under $20 for both. Not to mention, cocktails were $7! Our whole meal cost us under $100 after tip.
All this could have been enough for us to have an enjoyable experience, but Violet, our waitress, took it up a notch when she asked us what we would prefer for our daughter’s birthday celebration, she acknowledged every kid is different and may not tolerate a big birthday song or too many people. She offered to play our daughter’s favourite song over the speaker system (Let it Go from Frozen) and brought her a brownie dessert that had “BIG GIRL” written on the plate with a candle. Our daughter was over the moon that the song was playing. Violet also offered to clean her dish and bib that we brought so that we didn’t have to go do it ourselves in the bathroom. So kind! I’ve never had this offered to us anywhere else before.
It was our first time going to Piper Arms, as it’s new to our area (previously the Barley Mow, where we grew up going all the time) and I have to say, it was one of the best family friendly experiences I’ve had to date. Wonderful service, great food, and plenty of space. We will be back for sure, and we hope to have Violet again as our server! Thanks for making our daughter’s second birthday dinner such a great experience! She woke up this morning saying “restaurant fun” and I couldn’t agree more. 5 stars!!!
